The club was formed in 1875 and has since won the FA Cup three times, the Football League Championship once, the Football League Cup three times and the Community Shield once. It currently competes in the English Football League Championship, the second tier of English football. Coventry City Football Club is an English professional football club based in Coventry, West Midlands. The club competes in League One, the third tier of the English football league system. Founded in 1883 as Singers F.C., the club adopted its current name in 1898 and is one of only five professional clubs to have ever won the FA Cup, in 1987. They also reached two consecutive FA Cup finals, losing to Tottenham Hotspur in the 1981 final and defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3–2 in the 1987 final.
